Sunday Pond has been a bed and breakfast
since 1988 ---- named after a delightful pond about
five minutes walk through forest preserve land in our backyard.
Prior to 1988 this was our private
residence, which we built after moving here from
Connecticut in 1974. We had been vacationing here
for years and feel there is something very special
about these ancient mountains. With our two boys
grown and on their own, we decided to share our love
of the Adirondacks with others by operating a bed
and breakfast. Because of its location, Sunday Pond
B&B attracts people who like to spend most
of their time outdoors.
Guests often ask us about the construction of the
house itself which was built to look "old" in keeping
with the "rustic" flavor of the Adirondacks
We hauled our own framing timbers from a local
sawmill, then operating in Tupper Lake.
These rough-sawn, full cut boards were fashioned into a large
room with high cathedral ceiling and wide plank floors
--- providing a comfortable space for guests to relax
by an open fire and eat meals at our antique oak
banquet table.
Our sleeping accommodations are exceptionally clean and comfortable, and in keeping with the overall decor.
We are often asked "What do you mean by
RUSTIC?" Throughout the years, the Adirondacks have been a visitors'
paradise known for their "rustic elegance." Rustic style celebrates the natural
environment with log and natural wood construction, twig furniture and
decorations of birch bark and other natural materials. It is also characterized
by eclectic style, often mixing Oriental, Victorian and other styles.
At Sunday Pond
B&B you'll find this influence integrated with all the modern conveniences,
from the expected indoor plumbing to microwave oven and CD and video
player. The important part of rustic style is that it imparts a real flavor of and
appreciation for these mountains where we live.
